About

Jamie Maing has had an enduring passion for the arts and design that began in his early childhood. In his adolescent years, technology sparked his interest. By 2001, Jamie decided to study Information Technology at York University to see how far his interest in (computer) technology would take him. After only a year, he switched to the University of Waterloo’s (UW) Honours Studio Fine Arts and Digital Art Communications Co-op Program to pursue a more artistic career path. At UW, he’s been able to blend his two strongest passions (arts and design, and technology) into a unique set of skills that is in high demand in the digital design industry.

In 2005, while studying at UW, Jamie met his wife Sarah in class. Together they share a strong common interest in the arts – specifically painting and drawing.

While on co-op placements with BMO InvestorLine and BMO Financial Group, Jamie freelanced as a Web Designer with Studio Diversity working with various clients on their websites – from small to large businesses. Upon graduating, Jamie began working full-time as a Lead Web Designer at BMO Financial Group and as a part-time Senior Web Designer with Studio Diversity.

Within two years at BMO, he successfully accomplished a major project working with a team of roughly 35 colleagues in BMO’s eChannel Team to relaunch the entire website for the bank, reworking everything from back-end technology to front-end graphics.

In 2008, Jamie took an interest in digital photography and began experimenting with light, composition, and color techniques. He applied his knowledge of photography on BMO’s online Social Media platforms where he photographed portraits of the Twitter and Facebook Social Media Teams, which were then used on their respective sites. At the same time, he worked on Twitter backgrounds and Facebook campaign mock-ups in collaboration with the Design Team.

Jamie continues to work at BMO Financial Group, freelance with Studio Diversity, and push the boundaries of his skills in fine art, innovative thinking, photography and user-centered design. He is happily married with Sarah living in downtown Toronto.
